Loki Season 1 Episode 4 Review: The Mindless Action of Revenge

Loki is a riveting and well-acted show, but it is also riddled with inconsistencies and plot holes. The Mindless Action of Revenge is a great example of this.

In this episode, the titular character gets revenge on someone who wronged him. But, he does it in a way that is completely illogical and contrary to his intent.

In the latest episode of Sky One’s newest Marvel TV show, we see a lot of the repercussions of last week’s attack. Loki has not only found that he is the sole suspect, but now he’s being hunted by the Aesir.

It’s a wild and thrilling ride, but as always, the consequences of mindless action come back to bite him in the ass. Here’s my review of Loki Season 1 Episode 4.

Sylvie's backstory revealed

The fourth episode of "Mr. Robot" season 2 opens with black and white vision of a laconic Sylvie (Catherine Bejot) describing her entire life history with a few shots of her estranged family. She reveals that she was in two lives.

Her first life began in the year 1965 and ended in 1993 when her husband, mother and young daughter were killed by the TVA. Sylvie recounts how her husband, Camille (Marie Le Sage), helped her start her life over again with the help of an organization that facilitated refugee exits from France.

Camille died due to the effects of a bomb from the TVA while attempting to assist Sylvie, which she witnessed, save her mother from a concentration camp.

We all know how Sylvie is connected to the TVA, well this time it's her backstory that is revealed in the fourth episode. She is and was a girl with the television show River in the background. Her father was killed because he worked in the TVA and the next thing she saw was her mother beaten up by the TVA members.

She ran from them and ran so far that she had to go into hiding. (P.s: River is based on a Chinese story which was adapted by Henrik Ibsen) Sylvie, having no one, hid in a hotel until one day when she thought she met someone who could take care of her.

So she invited her into a hotel room and ate all the food, which angered the waiter who managed to catch her red handed and rape her, as a result she turned into a half-man and half-fish creature.

The story develops from where we left it in the previous episode, as Erika and Nisha team up to break up the cartel's communication and resolve the mystery of who killed her husband.

They travel to Lourdes, where the chief of the TVA conducts an investigation into the death of Daoud and the murders that have occurred in that town.

The location of the serial killer seems to be connected to the TVA, so they decide to start with them first. From there, they go to the Blue House where Sándor's body was found and another killing.

At this point, things get complicated, as it appears that Sylvie is not the only one who has a past.

The fourth episode of LOKI has finally unveiled the entire plot. The psychopathic tendencies of Loki have already been played upon in the last three episodes.

He’s a fearless thief who rarely tumbles, not even during his fight with Mary Jane. The shot that he sustains from her is proof of how fragile a human body can be.

This is also his first real face-off with Spider-Man in the series. The introduction of the mindless attacks to his strategy is a step forward in revealing the extent of his ambition.

Sylvie reveals her backstory and how she spent her life running from the TVA. They share a bonding moment as they talk, which somehow a new timeline. We will see the mindlessness of Loki unfold in the next episode.

The season finale

Loki was trying to get to the brothers, but always seems to end up at the doorstep of our protagonist. He is trying to reveal the reason why Valeros should hate his son, despite the fact that the pair has been nothing but ‘Friends’ all along.

Herein lies the rub of the episode. Sylvie’s backstory is eventually revealed in the form of montage-style flashbacks. While it is interesting, and seemed to have a certain level of back story that made sense, it ended up making little sense.

The whole episode felt as if it was an on-ramp to get to the next episode of S3. When Peter quits his job, and flees to France. The show had established that Valeros and his brothers had been in business for themselves.

Conclusion
